Mucurapo n-ballers maul St Martin’s 46-5
DEFENDING netball princesses Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive scored a resounding 46-5 victory over St Martin’s High School in their seasonal opener in the second edition of the British Gas Secondary Schools Netball League. Monday’s Group “Y” match at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo was over as a contest in the first ten minutes, and with goal-shoot Afeisha Noel who just missed selection on the Calypso Girls netballers squad for the World Netball Championships in Jamaica scoring 41 of 49 attempts the rout was on. Goal-attack Akeisha Mark got two goals from four attempts and Whitney Barclay three of five for the Mucurapo girls. Patrice Norton had a perfect two of two and sister Adasha Norton got three from six for St Martin’s. But the other match in this group between Success/Laventille Composite and Tranquillity Government ended in a thrilling 20-20 draw.
Goal-attack K’Lene Lewis who scored 14 of 30 attempts scored the goal for Tranquil to knot up the scores and earn a point. Leanna Pierre added three goals from four attempts and Janirwe Francois three from eight. Success/Laventille got 11 goals from 18 attempts from Ghaaliya O’Brien and Tenisha Price scored nine goals from 19 attempts. Group “X” champions Mucurapo Junior Secondary thumped Excel Composite 34-8 in their opening match this season also on Monday. Aniola Camejo sciored 18 goals from her 24 attempts while Nariba Grant got 16 of 23 for the winners. Makeda King netted seven of 13 attempts and Lavern Berkley had one from three for Excel.
