Top trio in Santa Rosa rematch

Phantom Bidder, Dottie’s Way and Outswinger are set to match strides over a distance of ground again on the Arima Race Club Day 34 card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Saturday.

The trio who filled the top three spots in the Eric “Colt” Durant Memorial Trophy Handicap on the turf on October 11, stood their ground at yesterday’s declaration stage to compete in the Handicap 1 and Lower feature on Saturday’s ten-race programme. In their clash earlier this month over 1725 metres Dottie’s Way carrying 53 kilos prevailed by one and a quarter lengths over Phantom Bidder (54), with the pacesetting Outswinger, shouldering the topweight of 56.5 kilos, a further half length away in third. Saturday’s match-up will be over 1750 metres on the main course, and with the change of surface  came slight adjustments to the weights of the fancied trio. Dottie’s Way was upped 0.5 kilo for the success, while her runner-up was penalised 2.5 kilos and asked to carry topweight of 56.5 kilos. Outswinger on the other hand slipped two kilos down from the highweight.

Imbedded in the nine-strong contest and giving it a competitive look are Royal Oak Derby winners of previous years Carnival Messiah and Millenium Reign, and Tactical Bid, an all the way winner over course and distance. Eight American bred juveniles were among the 85 entries to have filled out Saturday’s card. The lot is divided evenly between some lightly raced and unraced individuals, who have been sparking at exercises and are earmarked for the top. The good quality field will show their wares over 1100 metres on the sand course. The Allowance event, which acts as the supporting feature on the programme  attracted a small field of six runners. Man Of Class, who racked up consecutive victories on the two previous day’s racing will make a quick return in the 1200 metres contest. Down to match speed with Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj’s inmate are Game High, Maid Of Honour,  Isle Be True, Movietowne Magic and first time starter Highness.
