North East Stars crush Tobago Utd

THE NORTH East Stars bandwagon rolled into the Dwight Yorke Stadium,  Bacolet, and demolished cellar-placed Tobago United 9-2 in Round 27 action of the T&T Pro League. The left-footed strike pair of Jerren Nixon and Randolph Jerome combined for seven goals between them on Wednesday night,  while US-based midfielder Kevin Jeffrey added two more in the dying stages for the Sangre Grande-based squad. Jerome got a quick double in the 10th and 12th minutes while Nixon scored North East’s third in the 16th before Garth Woodley pulled one back for the Tobagonians after 39 minutes. But the floodgates opened in the second half, with Nixon on target in the 47th while Jerome completed his hat-trick in the 55th. With the Tobagonians at sea to the rampaging Stars forays, Nixon scored his third in the 64th and fourth 11 minutes later, before Dwayne Jack notched the second for Tobago United in the 77th.

The dreadlocked Jeffrey converted an 87th minute penalty to give The Stars an 8-2 lead, and ended the avalanche with his second goal in the 88th. South Starworld Strikers were also in a no-nonsense mood on the night, whipping struggling Caledonia AIA 4-0 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Two goals in quick succession, from captain Kester Cornwall in the 10th and Marlon Stoute a minute later, put The Stallions on the backfoot, and they never recovered, with Jamaican-born striker Nicholas Addlery netting the third in the 75th and Bevon Lewis two minutes from time. Holly Lewis was in great form on the night, scoring a first half beaver-trick (four goals) as South West Institute of Football (SWIF) doused  Arima Fire 5-1 at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground. Lewis got his name on the scoresheet in the 16th, 26th, 30th and 39th minutes to put the game beyond reach of the firemen, who pulled one back courtesy Handel Manswell three minutes into the second half. But there were no further slip-ups for SWIF, who completed the rout in the 85th minute when Kerry Hernandez scored.
