Fatima out to tame ‘Tigers’

FATIMA and “the Westmoorings Tigers” St Anthony’s will face off in the feature match of the RBTT Intercol North Zonal semi-final doubleheader today at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Both teams, who have a 1-1 (win-loss) record against each other during the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL), will square off from 3 pm. The Tigers, who have retained their SSFL North Zonal and “Big 5” crowns thus far, withstood a mini-collapse to defeat Diego Martin 5-3 in the quarter-finals on October 27 while Fatima earned a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph over Malick on that same day.
St Anthony’s have been firing on all cylinders this year, led by the in-form striker Abiola Sandy and the midfield trio of captain Julius James (back from national Under-23 duties in Guyana), Clevon George and Troy Thompson. Fatima, who have undergone a topsy-turvy season, will pin their hopes on the shoulders of playmaker Josimar Belgrave and striker Kern Gardiner.

The evening’s other match will see QRC opposing Mucurapo, with the Royalians seeking to atone from their dismal showing against Morvant/Laventille, when they needed second half strikes from forwards Simba Aberdeen and Aldo Hope to prevail 2-1. But the Royalians may prove to be too strong for Mucurapo, who have produced little of note this season. Winners of today’s encounters will meet in Friday’s final, also at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, from 4 pm.
