Manswell strikes gold in S/Domingo
TRINIDAD and Tobago CAC Games and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Kertson Manswell punched his way to gold at the Fifth Regional and International Boxing Tourna-ment in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic at the weekend.
Because of his record, Manswell, who also got silver at the Pan Am Games, received a bye straight into the final in which he fought as a super-heavyweight. But the Tobago-born puncher had no trouble in disposing of home town hero Rodept Gusman 21-11. Another Trinidadian boxer, Kurt Sinnette, having his first bout in three years, reached the semi-final in the 165-pound division. He beat Jose Alberto Santos 4-1 in their quarter-final bout but was beaten 10-7 by Manuel Pientel of Santo Domingo in what was described as a “hometown decision.” He later fought for and earned the bronze medal in the division, but further details were not available.
