UNC: Fire Cudjoe from Central Bank
OPPOSITION SENATOR Arnim Smith yesterday demanded the immediate dismissal of Professor Selwyn Cudjoe from the Board of the Central Bank. In a statement, the UNC Senator said Cudjoe must be removed for saying that Prime Minister Patrick Manning “was wrong in distancing himself from the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAAT) fiasco where 17- to 24-year-old male Afro-Trinidadians are being given preferential treatment in the admissions process.”
Smith claimed this was “clearly an attack on the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister needs to deal with it, unless he is practising double standards.” Last week, Manning said Govern-ment had no such policy and offered evidence to prove his case. Smith said either Manning or other PNM members “need to come clean and apologise to the nation.” The UNC senator declared that the population needs to know the truth and why “we are stuck with a Government who propogates racist policies on one hand and preaches something else on the other hand.” Smith also called upon Government Ministers Dr Keith Rowley and Danny Montano to publicly apologise for statements they made on the COSTAAT issue.
