Cops probe death of eight-day-old baby
POLICE are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of an eight-day-old baby girl, who was found dead by her 23-year-old mother, at their Moruga home yesterday morning.
Police sources told Newsday Terry Ann Graham of 953 Moruga Road, Moruga, gave birth to her fourth child on October 25 at San Fernando General Hospital. The baby, who was born two-months premature, was yet to be named. However, around 4 am yesterday, Graham reportedly breastfed her new born child before laying the baby down to sleep. Graham told police when she returned around 6 am to check on her baby, she observed the toddler lying motionless in the crib. Graham immediately telephoned police and a team of officers arrived on the scene along with District Medical Officer, Dr Seelochan, who pronounced the child dead and ordered the tiny body removed to the San Fernando Mortuary, where an autopsy was scheduled for yesterday. Acting ASP Dhilpaul, Sgt Maynard, Cpl Harbhajan and PC Ramdath visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
