Hollywood Star all ready to act

HOLLYWOOD STAR and You’ve Got Mail had a bullet workout at Santa Rosa Park, Arima yesterday as horses prepared for Day 35 of the Arima Race Club 2003 season.

The three-year-old pair appeared to enjoy the wet/fast track and stepped lively over 1,000 metres in 1:02.3 seconds. It was the best gallop of the morning, bettering the 1:04.4-second clocking of Celebra-tion Time and Squeezed Moment from the in-form Glenn Mendez stable. Celebration Time is one of Mendez’s three-pronged attacks on the Caribbean Champion Stakes over 1,800 metres on November 29, and previously finished runner-up to stable star Top Of The Class in this year’s Royal Oak Derby and third to his stablemate in the Bookmakers’ Association of Trinidad and Tobago WITRA Classic. Another pair to catch the eye yesterday was Tricky Guy and Yaa Asantewaa who galloped over 600 metres to stop the clock at 35.1 seconds.

Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj seems bent on continuing his dominance of the two-year-old races as his twosome of All Set For Battle and Java In Style coasted over 1,000 metres in 1:09.4 seconds. Another of his juveniles Salsa Moves was very easy in a 400 metres run together with Java In Style in 29.9 seconds on Monday, and can all be in the fray for the 1,200-metre sprint on Champion Stakes Day. A winner last time out, Travel Agent was best on the clock over 400 metres yesterday, completing the gallop in 27.1 seconds.
