Juvenile Sprint one worth seeing
THAT Arima Race Club Imported Juvenile Sprint 2003 promises to be a race worth seeing.
Forget the 1,800 metres Caribbean Champion Stakes on the same day, November 29, since if all goes well Top Of The Class should stride home easily. But the 1,200-metre sprint for imported two-year-olds at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, for which third and final subscriptions are due on Monday, have some very speedy horses holding the engagement. There is Smart And Lucky, who smashed the 1100 metres track record first time the Canadian-bred colt stepped on it in a race, winning by seven clear lengths. Then there is Fabulous Risk who was just off the new 1,100-metre-mark in his debut run locally.
Apart from these two speedsters Senor Gucci, twice second to Smart And Lucky and Fabulous Risk, much-thought-about- Daredevil Hero, Florida Fame, Ooze and Pyrite Tale could well face the starter. Turfites should not look beyond Napoleon to win the Arima Race Club Caribbean Sprint Championship Stakes over 1,200 metres. With his blinding speed, he should be too good for the ten other horses holding the engagement. But a big danger could be Man Of Class who won three times on the trot recently, then there is the always menacing Phantom Menace. If in the mood, Isle Be True could make them all step and to increase the interest in the race, Smooth Operator, Punto A Punto and Maid Of Honour are also in the fray. That ten-race programme on November 29 should really be a turfite’s dream, and with several horses showing off their good form lately, relishing the wet/fast track, look for records to tumble.
