Signal Hill go after Tobago Intercol crown

THE LADS from Signal Hill will be seeking to dethrone Scarborough as the Tobago Zonal RBTT Intercol champs when they meet in today’s final at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet.

And, in the Central Zone decider, Presentation Chagua-nas will put their title on the line when they square off against Carapichaima at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva. Kick-off time for both matches is 4 pm. Scarborough have been a shadow of their former self this season. After dominating proceedings in the sister isle in 2001 and 2002, they were beaten twice by their perennial arch-rivals 2-0 on September 23 and 4-0 on October 11. Signal Hill, who squeezed past Roxborough 1-0 in Wednesday’s semi-final, will depend heavily on their three main attacking weapons — captain and playmaker Keon Daniel and the strike pair of Jason Lightbourne and Massimba George.

On the other hand, Scarborough will need to produce the type of offensive firepower which they showed on Wednesday against Elizabeth’s (whom they crushed 9-1) to have any chance of retaining their title. A more even affair is expected at Couva when Presentation oppose Carapichaima, with both teams winning one match apiece in their two confrontations — 1-0 to Carapichaima on September 13 and 2-0 to Pres on October 14. Winners of today’s two finals will join reigning champions St Anthony’s, QRC, Naparima, St Benedict’s, St Augustine and Arima in the RBTT Intercol national competition, which kicks off next Thursday.
