Daniel-Worrell still women cricket boss
GAYLE DANIEL-WORRELL was re-elected president of the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Board (TTWCB) at their annual general meeting at the Queen’s Park Oval. Daniel-Worrell who has been credited with the rise of women’s cricket in Trinidad and Tobago was re-elected on Wednesdy last, and will serve from now until 2005, and will have as her deputy former West Indies captain and current regional coach Ann Brown-John. Hardworking Jean Carmino has also been retained as secretary with Joycelyn Opadeyi returned as treasurer. Committee members elected to serve for the next two-year period are Monica Hylton, Sandra Romany and Margaret Antoine. Meanwhile, the TTWCB will host their 2003 prize distribution ceremony on Saturday at the ALGICO Penthouse from 6.15 pm. First lady Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards has been asked to deliver the feature address. The next few months will be very hectic for the national women cricketers as they defend both their Caribbean crowns at home from May 2 to May 17.
And Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and an United States/Canada combined team are coming to challenge the regional double-crowned cricket queens. The regional Under-23 series will be played in St Vincent during the first week of July next, but dates have not yet been finalised. Still on the regional scene, a West Indies team will be chosen to tour India and Pakistan at the end of January next year. The team will go into live-in camp and leave for India and Pakistan in early February. Trinidadian Stephanie Power is expected to lead the team for the twin tour. On the domestic circuit Phoenix Cricket Club from Central Trinidad have joined the ranks for competition next season, which is expected to get underway in early January in an effort to be completed before the West Indies tournament scheduled for May. Last season the TTWCB received assistance from several corporate citizens including major sponsors Cable Company of Trinidad and Tobago and the board expressed the hope that next season they will again get the sponsorship of these sponsors and others. Other sponsors commended for their contributeds were Ministry of Sports, Unit Trust Corporation, National Lotteries Board and Carib Brewery.
