Businessman stabbed during foiled robbery
TWO bandits were arrested moments after they attempted to rob a San Fernando electrical store yesterday afternoon. During the incident the proprietor was stabbed in the head.
The suspects both aged 20, from London Street, La Romaine and Roy Joseph Scheme, San Fernando respectively, were up to last night assisting police in their investigations. They are expected to be placed on several ID parades and then charged. According to police reports, around 1 pm Anthony Deen, 65, was conducting business at his establishment — Sydney’s Electrical Ltd on Sutton Street, San Fernando — with four employees, when two men armed with cutlasses entered the store and announced a hold-up.
When Deen refused to hand over his money as ordered by one of the bandits, he was stabbed in the head repeatedly. The bandits then ran out of the store, while the employees telephoned police. A team of officers cordoned off the area surrounding the electrical store and captured the two suspects. Deen was subsequently taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and remains warded. Investigations are continuing.
