Cave tipped for vacant Chess title
CHRISTO CAVE is favoured to add the National Swiss Open Chess crown to his 2003 national title.
The Swiss Open tournament, sponsored by the National Gas Company, begin on Saturday from 3 pm at the Rhand Credit Union rooftop, Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain. And the event will be played under a seven-round Swiss-style format organised by the Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association. Cave missed the 2002 competition, which was won by Mario Merritt with fellow FIDE Master Ryan Harper taking the runner-up spot. But, with Merritt and Harper out of the country, Cave is heavily fancied to lift the crown. Other top competitors in the mix are FIDE Master Frank Yee and Olympian Ravishen Singh.
