NFM, Army top N/Zone b-ball

The Royal Extra North Zone Basketball Commission hosted their annual prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday.

Crowned were First Division League and Knock-out winners National Flour Mills; and Women’s Division League and Knock-out queens Defence Force. NFM took the $10,000 and trophy League prize, $2,000 Knock-out prize and trophy and the “Team of the Year” honours. They beat Detour Shak Attack into second and Royal Extra Lions into third in the League, who received $5,000 and $2,500 and trophies respectively.

Defence Force received $4,000 and $1,000 and trophies for their League and Knock-out double, after finishing ahead of Courts Horizon who received $1,500 and a trophy. Defence Force women also blazed the field in the march past and took the trophy for their effort. A special award was presented to George Phillips while other awards went to Gordon Felix who was named “Best Dressed Coach,” Clement Holder was named “Coach of the Year,” Off Limits were adjudged “Most Courageous Team” and Shak Attack were named “Most Disciplined Team.” Kerry Westfield took home the “Most Valuable Player” award among the men while Sojourner Hyles was handed the award among the women for their role in the success of their respective teams.
