Maharaj five for Juvenile Sprint
TOP local owner-breeder-trainer Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj will be aiming five of his “big guns” at the Caribbean Juvenile Sprint. Among his quintet is Salsa Moves, who annihilated his two-year-old peers by a long-looking 14 ? lengths on Saturday last over 12300 metres, in the good time of 1:12.28 seconds. Apart from Salsa Moves, “Boboy” will have Nursery Stakes winner Melanie My Love, Java Takeover, Laura’s Boy and All Set For Battle entered for the 1300 metres event to be run off on Caribbean Champion Stakes Day, November 29. But he will have 11 other two-year-olds to challenge for the top prize of $30,000.
Maharaj tied his own record on Saturday last, winning ten of the 13 juvenile races run off to date. And the way in which Salsa Moves, Java Takeover and Melanie My Love in particular have been destroying their fields, “Boboy” could well surpass his record. The day will be chock full of very competitive races with the Champion Stakes taking the spotlight. All turfites are expected to converge on Santa Rosa Park, Arima, to see whether triple crown winner Top Of The Class can beat the older horses in the 1800 metres race and so claim the $750,000 CLICO bonus. Then there is the Imported Juvenile Sprint over 1200 metres when Smart And Lucky and Fabulous Risk come to grips. And there is also the Caribbean Sprint Championship over 1200 metres when Napoleon will be seeking top hold off the challenge of Isle Be True, Man Of Class and The Guv’nor among others.
