3 youths on 17 criminal charges

THREE youngsters, aged 16, 17 and 20, appeared before a San Fernando Magistrate yesterday to face a combination of 17 criminal charges ranging from last Saturday’s killing of teenaged store clerk Arvin Bissoondial to armed robbery and possession of arms and ammunition.

The trio appeared in the San Fernando First Court before acting deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington. Court prosecutor Cpl Wendell Fernando objected to bail being set for the accused young men. Obika Roberts, 17, was charged with last Saturday’s manslaughter of Rennie‘s Shoe Store clerk Arvin Bissoondial, 17, armed robbery of the shoe store of $654, possession of an illegal firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of firearm to endanger life, possession of ammunition to endanger life, discharging a firearm within 40 yards of a public road and possession of a revolver at Harmony Hall, Gasparillo.

Jeron Calliste, 16,  was also charged for the manslaughter of Bissoondial and armed robbery of the High Street, San Fernando shoe store. In addition, he was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. The third accused, Nicholas Reyes, 20,  was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition at Harmony Hall, Gasparillo. He also faced two unrelated robbery charges — stealing a Toyota Corolla valued at $40,000 October 31 and robbing a security guard of his licensed firearm November.
