$60,000 disappears from Tru Valu vault

Officers of the Chaguanas CID are investigating the larceny of $60,000 from a vault at Tru-Valu Supermarket in Montrose.

Reports revealed that around 10 pm on Sunday, assistant manager Stephen Maddoo secured the cash in a vault at the supermarket and went away. He returned at 7 am yesterday and discovered the place broken into. Entry was gained by bursting a wall at the western side of the supermarket. The bandits forced open a steel door leading to the vault in the building and removed the cash. No grocery items were stolen and investigators believe the persons who stole the cash knew where the vault was located.

A party of officers from the Chaguanas CID led by Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and including Cpl Aguilerra and PC Langley went to the scene along with fingerprint experts. Newsday learnt that the area was checked for fingerprints. Several employees of the supermarket were questioned by investigators. When Newsday visited the supermarket yesterday it was business as usual except for the presence of  police investigators. An official of Tru Valu told Newsday that the matter is being thoroughly investigated. Police say based on information they have, arrests are imminent.
