Central cops beaten by St Ann’s outpatient

Two officers of the Central Division Task Force were beaten by a man armed with a piece of iron during a foot patrol in Chaguanas yesterday.

The man was shot in the right knee and taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and warded under police guard. Reports revealed that around 9.50 am, PCs Curtis Pierre and Olliver were on patrol with WPC Narcis along the Chaguanas Main Road when they observed a man armed with a bag acting in a suspicious manner. Officers challenged the man who dropped the bag and armed himself with a piece of iron. While being searched, the man began beating the two officers in full view of members of the public.

PC Olliver fired one shot at the man striking him in the right knee. The bleeding man was taken to the Chaguanas Health Centre and transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. PCs Pierre and Oliver were also treated and discharged. A bag which was seized by the police contained equipment believed to have been stolen from a church. ASP Millette, Inspector Burt Raphael and Ag Sgt Ajith Persad visited the scene and interviewed the suspect. The man told officers that he is an out patient of the St Ann’s Hospital.
