Father of 9 gets 9 years for indecent assault on 9-year-old girl

A CHAMP Fleurs father of nine, who was found guilty on Tuesday of serious indecency against a nine-year-old girl, was yesterday sentenced to nine years by High Court Judge Melville Baird. Justice Baird noted that the offence was a serious and grave one which carries a maximum sentence of ten years. In passing sentence against Vierra Thomas, Justice Baird urged parents to pay special attention to this case. He advised parents to let this be a call for them to exercise caution with friends and family.

He pointed out that not all male relatives have a motive, but noted that one could not tell the sheep from the “wolf in sheep’s clothing.” Justice Baird also commended the child’s father for acting with such restraint and exercising control under provocation. Justice Baird noted that Thomas’ comment that “Satan is busy” carried truth, since Satan takes no vacation. The facts presented by State attorney Althea Alexis was that on September 5, 2000, the victim’s father caught Vierra Thomas, 52, performing oral sex on his daughter. The disturbed father ran into the house, grabbed Thomas and started shaking him and Thomas allegedly responded, “Satan is busy.”
