Dasrath FCB Clarke Rd ‘Cricketer of Year’

GUYANESE all-rounder Damodar Dasrath was voted the 2003 First Citizens Bank (FCB) Clarke Road United “Cricketer of the Year” at the club’s annual prize distribution function at Wilson Road. on Saturday night. Dasrath scored the most runs 451 in the Carib National Cricket League at an average of 56.37. His best effort was an entertaining 120 against Tile It Central Sports at Presentation College, Chaguanas. His feat led Clarke Road to finish runners-up to Merryboys in the League. They however won the Carib Cup limited-overs title. Giving Dasrath keen competition for the top award was Mahadeo “The Door” Bodoe.

The ex-national player was his usual consistent self and had the best bowling average of 10.95 in the National League. “Club member of the Year” was Roland Sampath, while the “Youth Cricketer of the Year” award went to Rishi Bachan who represented Trinidad and Tobago in the regional Under-19 championships and is currently preparing for the Under-19 World Cup with the West Indies Youth team. Another West Indies youth player Tishan Maraj was honoured for his elevation to the West Indies team and his excellence in academics. International judge Anthony Lucky delivered the feature address and called on members to make every effort to bring out the youths in the community. “Clarke Road play a significant role in developing youths and when you develop youths you are really developing the community. “In playing the game you are introducing more people to the art, and this will help develop the person as I always say ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’.”

Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board president Ellis Lewis was also on hand and thanked Clarke Road for the efforts they are making to assist the country as a whole. He also thanked the club for the number of  regional players they have given to the national teams.
