Stroke victim sees brother commit suicide
CRIPPLED and unable to speak, a 55-year-old stroke victim watched helplessly as his brother hanged himself at their Princes Town home yesterday. Leo Chatoor, 58, was reportedly frustrated over the fact that he had insufficient funds to take care of himself and look after the special needs of his ill brother.
Chatoor, a taxi driver, was involved in a serious accident a few months ago which left his car a wreck. Since then, he had been out of work and slipped into a deep state of depression. Around 7.30 am, Chatoor’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from a rope at the shed of his Buen Intento home by a neighbour. According to reports, Chatoor took a piece of rope that was used to secure a hammock which his brother, Kenrick, was lying on. He then tied one end of the rope to a rafter from the roof of the shed and secured the noose around his neck. The cripple/mute watched in helpless horror as Chatoor committed suicide. Police were summoned by neighbours who later found the body. ASP Joseph Nathaniel is spearheading investigations.
