Cause of South Quay fire not known
The cause of the fire at Charran’s Building on Monday remains unknown. Checks made with the fire prevention department yesterday revealed that investigations were still ongoing. The officers on duty could not say at what stage the investigations were at, but they did indicate they would have a more detailed report on the incident before the end of the week. The Charran’s Building, located at South Quay, Port-of-Spain, was completely destroyed after fire gutted the building. The fire, which began around 11.30 am, took nearly two hours before fire officers could extinguish the blaze. The Charran’s Building housed several businesses, all of which were destroyed. Fire officers who visited the scene on Monday estimated damages caused by the blaze to be over two million dollars. Investigations are continuing.
