San Juan group worried over ‘bogus kidnap’ talk

STATEMENTS purportedly made by the Prime Minister during his recent visit to Washington is causing concern among members of the San Juan Business Association (SBA).

“For our society to suggest or even come close to postulate that the majority of kidnappings were bogus, is to bury one’s head in the sand and hope that the problem would go away. “The Prime Minister must surely have been misquoted and if this is the case, then the situation can easily be corrected,” said the SBA. It pointed out that the Prime Minister must be well aware that international organisations, governments and multi-national corporations all keep themselves informed with what takes place in Trinidad and Tobago. “This statement about bogus kidnappings may very well send an unintentional message, that is, we are unable to deal with our problems or we are not perceived to be a serious society.” President of the SBA Gail Meerhair was adamant that the kidnappings in the San Juan region were real.
