Imran Jan blasts 147 in cricket trial

Trinidad and Tobago captain-elect Imran Jan hit a big century yesterday  against Shazam Babwah’s XI in the third cricket trial yesterday.

The match is in preparation for next year’s Carib Beer Cricket Series regional tournament at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva. Jan made full use of a sun-drenched opening day to score 147 before retiring, to lead his team to 337 for four wickets. He was at the crease six hours, and hit 12 fours and five sixes in his 267-ball knock. Jan and West Indies discarded Test batsman Ricardo Powell posted a 146-run  partnership for the fourth wicket, before the skipper retired.

The Jamaican-born Powell hit a typical robust 88 which included six fours and three sixes off just 92 balls, batting for a shade over two hours. Dwayne Bravo (32) opened the innings with Jan, and they gave the Jan XI an excellent start on only the second day of play in the middle. At the close, Aneil Kanhai was on 16 not out and Kenton Thompson eight.
