Disabled group gets $80,000 from Canada
The Trinidad and Tobago Chapter of Disabled People’s International (DPI) recently received a donation of $80,000 from the Canadian government through the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CLFL).
According to a release, the grant was donated to secure the services of two consultants, David Hinton of the Canadian Paraplegic Association and Heather Moyse, an intern of CIDA’s Youth Internship Programme. The consultants have been assisting the organisation with the preparation of an “H” plate proposal for submission to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, which, according to the release, is completed and has been submitted to the relevant ministries. The “H” plate proposal is an incentive for taxi drivers to pick up and transport the physically challenged, in particular those who are wheelchair bound. This is expected to start in January 2004.
