UNC: Kidnapping makes Christmas sad

THE ONGOING spate of kidnappings in Trinidad and Tobago has dampened the Christmas spirit for many families who have been separated by the acts of the nefarious minority, according to the Opposition UNC. In its Christmas message to the nation, the UNC said one of the things which Christmas represents is family. “Sadly however this Christmas, because of the spate of kidnappings, many families are separated and will not be able to enjoy the season together. The endemic kidnapping problem that has plagued our country over the last two years has resulted in the forced separation of families, with parents having to send their children abroad. Many families too will be without their loved ones who have been taken away from them as a result of the rampaging crime rate, especially murders, which stands at a record high,” the UNC lamented.

The Opposition expressed regret that at Christmas time “many citizens are trapped in poverty” and urged citizens to extend a hand of kindness and charity to the less fortunate in the society. The party also lamented the number of deaths on the nation’s roads during the Yuletide season and urged greater caution on the roads. The UNC reminded the population that Christmas is a universal religious festival and called on all citizens to work together to build a future where “all people learn to love one another and to respect each other as we strive to live in harmony.”
