Baby girl is first in South

On the most celebrated day of the year, Christmas Day, three mothers gave birth at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH). These were comprised of two boys and one girl. It started at 1.03 am when 21-year-old Nyla Dookie of Hope Road, Manahambre, Princes Town, gave birth to a baby girl weighing 3.42 kilogrammes. By 3.50 am two other babies, both boys, were born. Their mothers were 21-year-old Krystal Luke of Union Village, Claxton Bay and Parbatie Boodram, 21, of Clarke Road, Penal. Luke delivered a boy at 2.42 am weighing 3.3 kilogrammes. At 3.50 am, Boodram delivered a baby boy weighing 2.5 kilogrammes.

Dookie, the mother of the first child born at the SFGH was relieved and elated. She said, “I had no idea the baby would have come so soon, but I am just relieved, I can’t wait to go home.” The newborn is Dookie’s second child, the first being a boy, now two-years-old. When asked if she intends to have any more children, she quickly responded with a smile saying, “One boy and one girl, that’s just about it.” Relatives and Dookie’s husband, 30-year-old contract welder Kerry Dookie, visited early yesterday and pampered the newest member of the family and offered their congratulations. Ward 13 at the SFGH was was a bee hive of activity as staff members of the unit shared Christmas joy singing  parang and carols from bed to bed.

As the first mother to deliver at the SFGH, Dookie was the recipient of special packages from both Cheekies and Teddies Products. A representative from Cheekies, Ann-Rose Christopher, presented her with a hamper containing St Yves and Hershey products. She also received a three-month supply of Cheeekies disposable diapers. Teddies marketing representative Corinne Pulchan also presented Dookie with a three-month supply of disposable diapers and hamper containing sanitary napkins, rags and beach balls. Each mother on the ward also received a hamper courtesy Teddies Products. Five more babies were born at SFGH after midday yesterday.
