Knights of St John host annual lunch

The Knights of St John yesterday hosted their annual lunch at Nazareth House in Port-of-Spain. However, President of the group, Baldwin Clovis, has expressed his regret over the decline in interest displayed by corporate bodies regarding the charitable efforts of his organisation. According to Clovis, “We used to give $1,000 to the seminary every year, and we used to feed many poor people with the funds.” Clovis said that since the death of Archbishop Pantin the efforts of the Knights have been met with disinterest by both the public and corporate bodies.

The Knights received negligible res-ponses to donation lists which were distributed before the Christmas season. “People are beginning to think that we use the donation money to fill our own pockets and this just isn’t true,” said Clovis. Despite this set back, the Knights managed to pool enough money, some from their own pension cheques, to hold their lunch at Nazareth House on Duncan Street. RC Archbishop Edward Gilbert was in attendance and chatted with the residents of the home.
