Telephone problems at Parforce Road, Gasparillo

Over one month and still no telephone services for a registered and paying  customer of the  Telecommuni-cations Services of Trinidad and Tobago  (TSTT). One of the residents at the home located at Parforce Road, Gasparillo, spoke about the problem  but did  not wish  to be identified. The woman said, “It’s more than one month  now that we have no telephone service, the matter  was reported to TSTT but even now the situation has not been  rectified.” The matter was reported in November and twice again in  December. The problem of no telephone service  coupled with crossing lines, the resident said, receiving has been recurring since the telephone service six months ago.

On two occasions  TSTT technicians visited and  changed the telephone the woman said. However, temporary  loss in service and at times the crossing of the lines continued. Sometimes she said  while speaking on the telephone the conversations of others could be heard distinctly in the background. Sometimes, noises on the telephone lines caused those using the phone to speak loudly and at the top of their voice. On one occasion one resident called the home number and received the response of a total stranger on the other end of the line that was his home telephone. The woman further said, “I suggested to TSTT that they rewire our  house since when installing our phone they used the same wiring from when we last had a telephone some six years ago.” Upon investigating Newsday was informed by relevant TSTT personnel that the matter was listed for  further attention by technicians but they were unable to say  when the issue  would be dealt with.  While the woman said she reported the matter on two occasions in December,

TSTT said the last report was made in November. The woman added, “Last time we received a bill for over $400, we have no real problem with this, but this bill cannot be payed entirely until this present situation is rectified. “This is really inconvenient, the reason you have a telephone is to be able to communicate with people  when you want to especially when it is important, but for over one month this has not been the case.” she continued. The woman  further said, “Someone called me for a job interview some time ago and because of the non working telephone lines they were unable to reach me, Luckily they had another contact number for me.” She ended, “I really hope this problem is solved very soon.”
