Security guard shot over $$
A security guard was shot in his leg over a long-standing feud with a Mt Hope resident. According to reports, security officer Selwyn Baptiste, 22, was at his workplace, a building under construction at Mt Hope Road, Mt Hope around midnight on December 26 when two men, one armed with a gun and the other with a cutlass, burst in and started arguing with the Forest Reserve, Fyzabad resident. Baptiste retaliated and three shots rang out. Two bullets hit him in the left leg and the men ran off.
The bleeding man was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where an emergency operation was performed to remove the bullet. Newsday investigations revealed that on Christmas Day, Baptiste and a resident had an argument over money in which threats were made. The resident returned the next night with an accomplice and attacked Baptiste. Investigations revealed that Baptiste and the man had a long-standing feud over money. Three days later, police received a report of the attack and interviewed the injured Baptiste who had been transferred to the Mt Hope medical complex. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a 35-year-old Mt Hope resident.
