WPC’s husband charged with assaulting army man

A 29-year-old man who is the husband of a woman police officer appeared in court yesterday charged with assaulting army personnel attached to a joint army/police patrol party. The man also faced two other charges of disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest. The accused 29-year-old Rennie Lessie appeared before Ag Dep Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court.

The incidents out of which the charges have arisen are said to have occurred around 8 pm last Saturday outside a bar located along Southern Main Road, La Romaine. It is alleged that the assault occurred after Private Michael Rampersad alighted from the patrol van in which he was travelling. Lessie pleaded not guilty to all charges and was granted bail in the sum of $5,000. The charges were laid by PC Ramcharan.
