Morvant man murdered in bed

A 24-year-old Morvant labourer was murdered as he slept in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to reports brothers Junior and Jared “Ronnie” Duprey, both of 25 Gerbera Avenue Coconut Drive, Morvant, returned from a party and went to sleep on the same bed at approximately 4.20 am on Saturday. At around 5.40 am two gunshots were fired and according to Junior, he heard his brother say, “I get corn!” When he  turned on the bedroom light he allegedly saw Jared holding his stomach as blood flowed over the bed. The bleeding man ran to a nearby basketball court where he collapsed.

Duprey was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. According to police the man was involved with a notorious gang in the area and suspect that the shooting may be related. When Sunday Newsday visited the home of the victim some neighbors said that they knew the man but were unaware of the shooting. Others who knew of his death declined to comment on the incident.
