Taxi driver shot in robbery attempt

A 56-year-old taxi driver was shot by a bandit in a robbery attempt on Sunday evening.

According to police reports, the driver, Keith Barrow of Edinburgh 500, was plying his car for hire along the Port-of-Spain-Chaguanas route, when he picked up four people, one woman and three men. On reaching Monroe Road, one of the male passengers locked the driver’s neck and shot Barrow in the waist. Police officers, who were passing at the time of the incident, pulled over to investigate. The injured driver told officers what had happened. The gunman ran off and the three other passengers were held by the officers. The taxi driver was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he remains warded in a satisfactory condition. Sgt Housend of the Chaguanas Police is continuing investigations.
