Canadian-based Trini ready for Spektakula
NIKEISHA TOUSSAINT, who thrilled thousands at the recent Trinidad and Tobago Day at Woodbine, Canada, is heading to this country for the Carnival season. Nikeisha, Trinidad and Tobago’s (best kept secret) performing artist - now residing in Toronto, Canada, is set to “mash up de place” for Carnival 2004 as she makes her debut appearance on the Calypso Spektakula Entertainment Forum’s stage in Port-of-Spain. With her hot new release Party Limers (Remix) featuring Dia-mond, Nikeisha’s pulsating up-tempo composition with its catchy hook line is guaranteed to have the Spektakula audience up and out of their seats and jammin’ for the carnival season. “Doh Bother Meh,” the second single to be released in Trinidad on January 23, was written by Selwyn Woods of Woodsy Music who also wrote the monster hit, “Whoa Donkey” for the United Sisters.
Always proud to showcase new talent, Frank Martineau, producer of one of the premier entertainment events for the carnival season is excited to have the addition of the young diva to the performance roster. No stranger to performing for the home crowd, Nikeisha was pleased to perform for over 5,000 people last year at David Rudder’s 50th birthday bash held at MOBS 2. She has also shared the stage with some of Trinidad and Tobago’s biggest acts including Sugar Aloes, Destra Garcia, Denise Belfon, Calypso Rose and Roy Cape and Kaiso All Stars. Nikeisha has also opened for acts such as reggae artists Beres Hammond and Marcia Griffith, five-time Grammy Award nominee Dorothy Moore and the legendary Percy Sledge. She also opened for the show headlined by Beenie Man and the Mighty Sparrow for Caribana 2003.
This young diva explores several genres, from soca to r&b and pop. She comes up with an enjoyable musical feast on this her first r&b/soca CD production. As executive producer, Nikeisha teamed up with some of the music industry’s best, Eddie Bullen, Woodsy Music, Ossie Gurley of OSS Productions and Carlyle “Juiceman” Roberts, musical director from the band Roy Cape and Kaiso All Stars, to produce an ambitious collection of compositions. This talented and beautiful diva showcases her talents as a songwriter, penning eight of the 12 songs on the CD including “I’m Steppin,” “I Believe in Love,” “Changes,” “Party Limers,” “Sticking,” and “Ah Little More Soca.” Calypso Spektakula Entertainment Forum is scheduled to open January 23 in Port-of-Spain.
