Jabloteh remain on course for repeat

LEADERS CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh remained on course to retain their T&T Pro League title after a 4-0 thrashing of South West Institute of Football (SWIF) at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground on Wednesday night. Nearest rivals W Connection were also in winners’ row on the night with a 2-1 triumph over the Caledonia AIA “Stallions” at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. But time is running out on Connection, who still trail Jabloteh by 12 points on the ten-team table. Connection (71 points) have a game in hand but Jabloteh (83 points) seem almost certain to keep the crown for a second successive season.

Captain Angus Eve put Jabloteh in front after 26 minutes, with striker Devon Mitchell extending the lead in the 57th. SWIF fell further behind in the 76th after a Kerry Baptiste goal and the scoring was completed eight minutes from time when midfielder Trent Noel found the target. Goals by striker Titus Elva (16th) and Silvio Spann (65th) were enough to give Connection full points against the Stallions, whose lone strike came from Nigel Hart in the 88th. At the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, South Starworld Strikers and FA Trophy winners North East Stars battled to a 1-1 draw with Jamaican striker Nicholas Addlery scoring for Starworld while national forward Jerren Nixon was the marksman for the visitors. One Senior Division match is on schedule today, with fifth-placed Defence Force meeting fellow servicemen Arima Fire at the Ato Boldon Stadium from 5 pm.

Under-20 Results: STARWORLD STRIKERS (4) Phillip Jordan 4th vs NORTH EAST STARS (0); SAN JUAN JABLOTEH (2) Ijaner Mark 68th, Rennie Britto 82nd vs SWIF (1) Marlon Henry 22nd; W CONNECTION (1) Akeil Pierre 80th vs CALEDONIA AIA (0).
