AG ready to assist Judiciary

ATTORNEY GENERAL John Jeremie has offered to assist the Judiciary in its bid to ensure that all the Magistrates’ Courts across the country become fully functional as quickly as possible.

Jeremie noted that since October 1, 2001, the refurbishment of Magistrates’ Courts and rental of temporary accommodation became the sole responsibility of the Judiciary. Notwithstanding this, Jeremie said the Government stands ready and willing to provide any additional resources and assistance possible which the Judiciary may require to expedite the smooth delivery of justice across the country. The Attorney General’s response followed a news conference on Thursday hosted by Chief Justice Sat Sharma concerning the situation at the country’s Magistrates’ Courts. The Chief Justice met with a delegation from San Fernando concerning the conditions at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court.
