Connection in must-win Pro-league match today

W CONNECTION must defeat Arima Fire in today’s T&T Pro League Round 33 clash to have any chance of dethroning runaway leaders and defending champions CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh.

Connection will host the eighth-placed Fire at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva and, with a 12-point deficit between themselves and Jabloteh, need full points to keep their hopes alive. If Fire emerge victorious today then Connection, who will miss midfielders Gefferson Goulart and Ronaldo Viana due to trials in Yugoslavia, must hope that Jabloteh are beaten by South Starworld Strikers at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella to maintain any aspirations for the title.

Jabloteh have been in sizzling form all season and, with 100 goals and 83 points from 32 matches, including 26 wins, are firm favourites to retain their crown. Fire will be leg-weary following a 3-0 whipping of Defence Force at Couva on Friday, with Elliot James netting twice, in the second and 62nd minutes, and Brent Antoine in the 20th. The Army-Coast Guard combination will travel to the sister isle Tobago to face cellar-placed Tobago United at the Roxborough Complex while North East Stars host “the Stallions” Caledonia AIA at the Sangre Grande Recreation Grounds. With the exception of the Connection-Fire encounter, all matches which are scheduled to begin at 4 pm, will be preceeded by Under-20 action.
