Calypso Revue opens Friday
Calypso Revue will jump the gun on the other calypso tents when they open the doors to their spanking new home at 111-117 Henry Street, Port-of-Spain on Friday January 16. This will be the first time in the history of the Revue that the tent will open in Port-of-Spain instead of the usual Arima Velodrome. Revue’s new home is steep in the tradition of calypso as it once housed Calypso Spektakula. Tent manager Jazzy Pantin pulled this one out of his hat even after he had secured another venue for his tent.
It was a race against time to get the dilapidated Forum back into shape as a first class venue for some of this country’s top calypsonians. Cro Cro and Sugar Aloes will headline a cast which includes Baron, Pink Panther, Kenny J, Skatie, Devon Seales, Poser, Natasha Wilson, Ajamu, Nature, Organiser, Unknown and others. Natasha Wilson will be doing tent duties after a long absence from this type of action. Music will be supplied by the Calypso Revue Orchestra with Revue Angels as chorus. Calypso Revue will move to Arima on Saturday January 17 and then on to Skinner Park in San Fernando on January 18. Although they are operating from a new home it is expected that the tent will upkeep the usual high standard the public has come to expect from the cast.
