Jabloteh clinch Pro League crown
CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh yesterday defeated W Connection 2-1 to retain the T&T Pro league football crown. In front of close to 300 fans at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva including new national coach Bertille St Clair, Jabloteh went ahead in the fourth minute. A shot by striker Nigel Pierre put the San Juan lads ahead but Connection equalled 14 minutes later when veteran striker Leonson Lewis sent a long range drive past Jabloteh goalie Daurance Williams. Jaboteh got the winning goal in the 63rd minute when defender Keyeno Thomas headed a Kerry Baptiste corner past Connection ‘keeper Alejandro Figueroa.
National Under-23 defender Lyndon Diaz suffered a mild concussion during the match and will miss the team’s tour of Cuba. Two matches were contested on Friday night with “the Eastern Lions” Joe Public, courtesy a Sterling O’Brien item in the 70th, edging “the Stallions” Caledonia AIA 1-0 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. In the other encounter at the Palo Seco Recreation Grounds, South West Institute of Football (SWIF) were held to a 1-1 draw by Arima Fire. Veteran midfielder Curte Fermin gave the hosts a 25th minute lead via the penalty spot before the firemen equalised in the 42nd through Sheldon Gray. Three matches are on the cards today, from 2 pm, with North East Stars hosting Tobago United at the Sangre Grande Recreation Grounds; Caledonia opposing South Starworld Strikers at Couva and, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna, Joe Public squares off against Defence Force.
