Man charged with raping girl, 12

BAIL was denied to a 46-year-old man who appeared before a Siparia magistrate on Friday charged with raping a 12-year-old girl, who is now five-months pregnant. The accused, of Fyzabad, was not called on to plea by First Court Magistrate Lucina Cardenas- Ragoonanan, since the charge was laid indictably. The girl’s pregnancy was detected last week after the principal of her school observed the victim and her nine-year-old sister, who is also a pupil of the school, acting in a strange manner.

The female principal took the girl and her sister to a private doctor, who medically examained the 12-year-old and confirmed that she was five-months pregnant. A report was immediately made to the Fyzabad Police Station. Investigations revealed that the 46-year-old man was a close friend of the girl’s father and he frequently visited her Fyzabad home.The accused was arrested and charged Friday. The man is expected to return to court on January 23.
