Repsol signs agreement with TT
The crp establishment of an Energy Training Centre as part of the new University of Trinidad and Tobago is the focus of a joint venture between Spanish Energy Company Repsol-YPF and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. It is expected that the centre will be instrumental in the training of energy professionals and developing a strong research and development capability serving the energy sector. Prime Minister Patrick Manning signed an agreement “in principle” with Repsol-YPF Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alfonso Cortina during his visit to Respsol-YPF’s headquarters in Madrid, Spain on December 11, 2003. The agreement is to be formalised during a visit of Repsol’s board and senior management to Trinidad and Tobago later in January, a release issued by the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries stated.
Repsol-YPF along with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago proposes to establish a joint team of technical experts to explore the most effective manner in which the energy company can assist the formation of the energy education centre. Repsol-YPF has significant interest in Trinidad and Tobago through its 20 percent investment in Atlantic LNG and 30 percent shareholding in bpTT. As part of the agreement, Repsol expressed its desire to enhance its presence in Trinidad and Tobago through the pursuit of further involvement in the country. The Spanish Energy Company already contributes to the development of skills in the international energy arena via a postgraduate energy education centre it founded and runs in Spain called the Instituto Superior de la Energia (ISE). The ISE offers a number of postgraduate programmes to students of different countries.
