Woman’s body lands on passing car
A 56-year-old grandmother of 11 was left dead and another man injured, following an accident on the Uriah Butler Highway, in the vicinity of Charlieville on Friday. Around 7.30 pm, Rajmattie Nancoo, of 25 Ackbar Trace, Charlieville was returning home after visiting her brother’s residence and was attempting to cross the northbound lane unto the southbound lane, when she was struck by a car. Her body landed on the hood of another car that was passing, which was driven by Leon Samlal. His Sentra B14 ran off the highway and into some nearby bushes. Nancoo died instantly. Samlal, 45, an employee of RAMCO Industries Limited, was rushed to hospital where his condition was said to be stable.
When Sunday Newsday visited the Nancoo family yesterday, they were in a state of shock. Her daughter, Kimberly Ramtahal, stated that she was at home when she received the news of her mother’s death. “I couldn’t believe it. I really heard the commotion and ran out on the highway. It was only when I saw her face that I believed,” she cried. “My mother was a loving person, always willing to help somebody.” Nancoo’s son, Anand Ramlal, described his mother as a selfless person who would go out of her way for anyone. Nancoo will be cremated at the Felicity cremation site, under Hindu rites, following a funeral service at the family’s Charlieville home at 11.30 am tomorrow. Corporal Remy, of the Chaguanas Police Station, is investigating.
