Bandits throw workers out WASA vehicle
TWO Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) workers’ five-minute ‘break’ from a busy day schedule while sitting in a company vehicle ended abruptly when two gun-toting bandits suddenly appeared and ordered them out with their personal belongings, then took off with a $60,000 pick-up van and $10,000 worth of WASA equipment.
According to reports, at around 8.30 pm on Sunday, the two employees, a systems technician and a driver, decided to take a rest in the vehicle after repairing pipe lines on Target Road in Tunapuna. While taking a light “snooze,” two men snuck up on both sides of the windows and ordered them out. The gun-wielding bandits allowed them to remove their personal effects before driving off with the vehicle, which contained $10,000 worth of WASA equipment. Police sources confirmed to Newsday that they expect an arrest soon as information has led them to a location in Laventille. The vehicle was rented from Southern Sales Car rentals. Visiting the scene were Ag Sgt Ramjattan Jugmohan and Constable Nigel DeSilva. Constable DeSilva is conducting enquiries.
