Correction on Vignale

THE EDITOR: In paying tribute recently to the late Barnabas J Ramon-Fortune in a radio broadcast, Professor Selwyn Cudjoe also made reference to other Arima writers, including Ralph Vignale who died in the early 60’s.

The Professor’s statement that, in a fit of rage, Ralph destroyed his own manuscripts was sensational, but incorrect. When I pointed this out to him, Professor Cudjoe apologised for the mistake and promised to retract it. I think that he may have done so on the radio, but since there are many people like me, who do not listen regularly to the radio, I think it necessary, in fairness to Ralph’s reputation and to the memory of him, that I let the correction appear in print. Ralph Vignale’s literary works comprised novels, plays, operettas, short stories, newspaper articles and occasional verse. His many novels all appeared in serial form in newspapers and periodicals, but Ralph himself would never have destroyed any of his writings.
