Fisherman’s van burns

AN ELDERLY man was awakened from sleep by the shouts of neighbours who spotted his parked van on fire early yesterday morning. Quick action by the neighbours and 65-year-old Cyrus Baptiste, who used a garden hose to put out the flames, prevented the vehicle from being completely destroyed.

According to police sources, the van was discovered on fire around 2 am at Baptiste’s La Lune Village, Moruga, home. Shortly after, a fire appliance from the Princes Town Fire Station arrived and ensured that the blaze was completely doused. The windscreen of the van was  smashed and a length of wire, believed to have been used to force entry from the left passenger door, was found. Damage to the Mazda pick up, valued at $37,000, was assessed at $8,000.
