PNM: Fund technical institutes
GOVERNMENT must spend the necessary funds to ensure that the John Donaldson and San Fernando Technical Institutes do their part to satisfy the nation’s tertiary education needs.
Addressing a post-PNM General Council news conference at Balisier House Sunday, PNM vice-chairman John Donaldson said the General Council is asking Government to “spend the required funds to upgrade the John Donaldson Technical Institute and the San Fernando Technical Institute so that they can continue to serve the laudable purposes that they served in their hey day.”
Former Science, Technology and Tertiary Education Minister Danny Montano previously lamented that the former UNC regime had left several deficiencies in the tertiary education sector while former Planning Minister Dr Keith Rowley slammed the UNC for diminishing the capacity of John Donaldson Technical Institute in favour of the Trinidad and Tobago Institute of Technology at Couva.
Donaldson indicated that a resolution was entertained from the Diego Martin West constituency “to reopen and expand youth camps as they existed before” and the party believes more work should be done media wise to remind the population about what Vision 2020 was all about. On the latter point, Donaldson stressed that the PNM had no quarrel with the media or its coverage of events in TT.
