Cro Cro’s song racist
Ancil Anderson Morris, chairman of the United National Congress (UNC), described the Weston “Cro Cro” Rawlin’s calypso, “Face Reality,” as one that demonstrates bigotry, racism and lack of tolerance. In a release yesterday, Morris stated that Cro Cro’s song was encouraging criminals to continue kidnaping, and is also saying to them that it is all right to break the law. “If chaos is the order of the day and there is a subsequent rise in kidnapping, are we to assume that it will be right for bandits to break into Cro Cro’s house, as they did last year, and kill one of his dogs?” Morris stated.
“I am also sure that it will be all right to kidnap, rape or even murder anyone related to, or connected with Cro Cro,” he added. “I also suppose that it will be all right for more guns to enter the country.” The UNC chairman called on the Government to ban the song as it is “inimical to the national interest.” In addition, an e-mail campaign has also been launched to ban the song from being played on the radio airwaves and calypso tents. The forwarded messages have been sent to “voice dissatisfaction to the press and all responsible Trinidadians.”
