$55,000 burglary at La Romaine business place
THE owner of an air conditioning business, who fell victim to a $55,000 burglary yesterday, believes the perpetrators were seasoned criminals who were familiar with the air conditioning business. The burglars broke through two iron burglar-proofed gates and a sliding door to gain access to the expensive equipment at the La Romaine business place. “This was the work of either an ex-employee or someone with knowledge of air-conditioning. They knew what they came for and took exact parts to match the equipment,” David Frost told Newsday.
Frost said he secured his business place at Adesh Drive, La Romaine, around 5.45 pm Wednesday. When he returned yesterday morning, Frost noticed the gates and a door leading into hisbusiness place were open. As he walked in, he noticed an air condition unit and compressor, both of which were secured in the storeroom, lying close to the entrance. On closer inspection of the premises, Frost realised several shelves were emptied of their contents and pieces of equipment including drills, vacuum pumps, compressors, socket sets and a computer, were missing. “What is amazing is that they did not just take anything randomly from the shelves, but parts which matched the equipment that only people who repair or service air condition units, would know about,” Frost said. He believed the burglars also tried to use a company vehicle to transport their loot, since a key was found in the ignition of one of the company vans. “Maybe they ran out of time,” he said. Officers from San Fernando CID visited the scene and dusted the premises for fingerprints and other clues. Up to late yesterday no arrests had been made and PC Sookhoo is continuing investigations.
