PNM loyal supporters in depressed areas
THE EDITOR: The current walkabout by Prime Minister Patrick Manning brings the Book of Revelations to mind. Like Saul of Tarsus the scales are beginning to fall from the eyes of the anointed one and after 33 years (this number rings a bell) in Government PM Manning now realises that the loyal supporters of the PNM over the past 46 years are living in depressed areas. After the cosy relationship during the general elections, the Prime Minister only now recognises that the Jamaat remains a threat. Can anyone imagine the gall of the man to go to his followers and say to them that they are living in depressed areas when his party has held the reins of Governance for 36 of the last 47 years?
Little do we know this could be Prime Minister Saint Paul Manning. As it is often repeated by some that the PNM “gee we house and education,” it would appear that these benefits were given to a selected few close friends and not to all the followers. In Carenage, Minister Rowley misunderstood what was said to him when the people asked him for drainage. The Minister said that before they wanted roads, electricity, telephones and water but the people are aware that Minister Rowley had no part in supplying these utilities to Carenage so they would like their representative to at least make some input. It was during the 1999 Miss Universe contest, which the Minister continues to criticise for obvious reasons, that these utilities were brought up to the current standards in Carenage. It is also worthwhile to learn that the entire Cabinet is supporting the illegal building on State Lands and it is not merely the whim of the Prime Minister. There is hope for those in our communities who are erecting illegal structures like billboards.
