A movie for the season

THE EDITOR: In the heat of the Carnival comes a romance movie like a breath of fresh air. It is called Kal Ho Naa Ho (“Tomorrow May Not Come”) which opened to packed audiences at cinemas nationwide.

In keeping with the spirit of Carnival, this movie has a wild rush of bold colour, joyful dancing and pulsating rhythms. The sub-titles are in English, yet the touching music transcends the lyrics. The soft low-key piano playing repeatedly in the chorus is tear-jerking. The movie is deemed to be the biggest Hindi film success from 2003 even in the United States where it is set. Kal Ho Naa Ho is about strong family values and traditions. This is no Indian movie with absurd jokes, songs as fillers, and dancing around trees. It should be seen by all those who believe that love is pure, powerful, and passionate. It is a clean movie for all ages — and a breath of fresh air from the sex and violence of Hollywood.
